Slot slams officiating after Liverpool’s dramatic defeat to Man City

Arne Slot has hit out at he referee for failing to send off Marc Guehi after his second-half pull on Mohamed Salah during Liverpool’s 2–1 defeat to Manchester City on Sunday.

Guehi was close to a move to the Reds last summer, but eventually joined Man City in a £20 million deal last month and could have been sent off for a foul on Salah on the edge of the box.

The 25-year-old was handed a yellow card for the foul as VAR deemed that teammate Ruben Dias was covering and could have prevented Salah from having a run at goal.

Speaking after the match, Slot disagreed with the decision and believed that single incident could have had an impact on the final scoreline.

“If l had to talk about one moment, it would be when Salah was on goal and Guehi had his shirt”, Slot said.

“Everyone who’s been in this stadium for the past eight years knows that if Mo Salah comes into that situation, it’s a goal.

“So that is definitely a goalscoring opportunity.”

Manchester City recorded a 2-1 comeback win over the Reds at Anfield to complete the double in the Premier League for the first time in 89 years.

The Cityzens also closed the gap to league leaders Arsenal to six points with 13 matches to play.

Dominik Szoboszlai opened the scoring with a brilliant freekick, but Bernando Silva and a late Erling Haaland’s penalty swung the tie in favour of the visitors.

Rayan Cherki added a third, which was later ruled out by VAR, with Szoboszlai earning a red card in the same sequence of play.

“Out of hundred people, we could find 20 people from the PGMOL who would say it wasn’t a red card”, Slot concluded.
