Brentford head coach Keith Andrews praised his side’s character and attacking intent following their dramatic 1-1 draw against Arsenal on Thursday night.
In a contest packed with momentum swings and high-tempo action, the Bees showed resilience to respond after falling behind in the second half.
Arsenal briefly seized control after the interval, but Brentford refused to fold, instead rallying to earn a deserved point in front of their home crowd.
Reflecting on the encounter, Andrews felt the game delivered on every front.
“It was a game that had everything,” said the Bees head coach. “There was a lot of action.
“In the first half, I thought we were brilliant, played really well and were the better team. In the first 15-20 minutes of the second half, they were very good and gained control of it, which they can do because they’re a top team.”
After weathering Arsenal’s spell of dominance and conceding the opener, Brentford responded with renewed energy and purpose. Andrews highlighted the mentality shift as a defining moment in the match.
“They got the goal but the way we reacted to that with the spirit, character and ability we showed was outstanding. If any team was going to win it, I felt it was probably going to be us.
“We were pushing and consistently looking like the team that was going to go on and win it.”
Indeed, Brentford surged forward in the closing stages, turning the contest into an end-to-end spectacle. Their pressing, physicality and direct play unsettled Arsenal, reinforcing why they have been one of the most competitive sides in the division this season.
While the points were ultimately shared, Andrews’ assessment underlined a growing belief within his squad. Against one of the league’s top teams, Brentford not only matched their opponents but finished strongly.
