Marmoush hails Man City’s mentality after FA Cup win over Newcastle

Omar Marmoush has praised Manchester City’s mentality following their comeback 3-1 win over Newcastle United in their FA Cup fifth round clash at St James’ Park.

The Cityzens progressed into the quarterfinals of the competition after overturning a one-goal deficit to record their fourth win over the Magpies in 2026.

City had knocked Newcastle out when both sides met in the semifinals of the EFL Cup, claiming a 5-1 aggregate win and had recorded a 2-1 win in their Premier League clash last month.

Speaking after the win, Marmoush, who netted twice in the encounter, was very impressed with how his side turned up in the clash.

“Amazing performance. We showed our mentality and passion on the pitch and for that we’re very happy to go to the next round”, Marmoush said.

“I’m very happy to help the team with the goals and we keep going.”

Newcastle took the lead in the 18th minute after Sandro Tonali found Harvey Barnes, who fired past James Trafford in the City goal, with Pep Guardiola making several changes to his lineup.

However, the much-changed Man City were level in the 39th minute as Savinho tapped in after great work in the buildup by Jeremy Doku.

It took just two minutes after the restart for City to get in front as Matheus Nunes found Marmoush, who fired into the net.

The Egyptian forward bagged his brace and his side’s third of the encounter in the 65th minute after linking up with Nunes once again.

Guardiola’s men advance to the last eight and will be determined to win the competition this time around after consecutive defeats in the final.

Meanwhile, Manchester City will find out their opponents in the next round when the draws are conducted on Monday night, ahead of the clash between West Ham United and Brentford.
