Morocco and PSG star Hakimi to face trial over alleged 2023 incident

Achraf Hakimi is set to stand trial in France following allegations linked to an incident reported in February 2023, according to information confirmed on Tuesday by his legal team and the Nanterre prosecutor’s office.

The Morocco international and Paris Saint-Germain defender has consistently denied the accusation.

Reacting publicly, Hakimi reiterated his position and said he is ready for the judicial process to run its course.

“Today, a rape accusation alone is enough to justify a trial, even though I contest it and everything shows it is false,” the player responded on X.

“I am calmly awaiting this trial, which will allow the truth to come out publicly.”

The case dates back to late February 2023, when a 24-year-old woman visited a police station in Val-de-Marne and reported that she had been raped.

While she made a statement to police, she did not file a formal complaint at the time, according to judicial sources.

Hakimi’s lawyer, Fanny Colin, has strongly challenged the basis of the referral to trial, insisting the process has moved forward without what she describes as corroborating evidence.

“A trial is being ordered based solely on the word of a woman who blocked all investigations, refused all medical exams and DNA tests, refused to allow her phone to be examined, and refused to name a key witness,” said Colin.

According to a police source, the civil party alleges that the footballer kissed her, touched her without consent, and then raped her.

When contacted, the woman’s lawyer, Rachel-Flore Pardo, did not immediately respond regarding the referral to trial.

Colin further stated that “the two psychological assessments” carried out on the complainant “revealed a lack of clarity regarding the facts she claims to report,” adding that investigators noted messages allegedly exchanged with a friend that, she claims, involved planning to rob Hakimi.

Following the prosecutor’s recommendation that the case proceed to trial, Pardo rejected suggestions of ulterior motives.

“Nothing in this case suggests an attempt at extortion,” she said.

“We will not tolerate any smear campaign or attempt at destabilisation, as unfortunately still happens too often to women who have the courage to report rape.”

She added: “We are determined and ready to fight as we await this trial, so that justice can be served.”

As proceedings move into the next phase, the case is expected to draw significant attention both within and beyond football, with Hakimi continuing to maintain his innocence while preparing to contest the allegations in court.
