Pep Guardiola teases Manchester City stay next season

Pep Guardiola has warned that Manchester City will continue to get better next season, dropping a major hint he could remain at the club beyond the end of the current campaign.

The Spaniard is under contract at City until 2027, but his future has been uncertain over the past few months and he has been widely tipped to leave at the end of the season.

Former Chelsea boss Enzo Maresca has been scouted as a likely replacement for the former Barcelona manager if he decides to leave City in the summer.

However, during his pre-match press conference on Friday ahead of their FA Cup fifth round clash against Newcastle United, Guardiola dropped a major hint about his future at the club.

“We are not a complete team to compete to, you know, to be solid,” said Guardiola.

“That is the reality. But we are in the process of many changes.

“If we can learn quicker, and still nothing is lost, you know, we can arrive in the last month with the chances.”

Guardiola joined Manchester City in 2016 after leaving Bayern Munich and has spent 10 years at the club already, marking his longest-ever stay at a single club in his managerial career.

He has guided the club to a period of dominance in English football, while they also claimed a historic treble in 2023, including an first-ever UEFA Champions League trophy.

The Cityzens are also in contention to win another league title this season, while they have also reached the final of the EFL Cup and will face Arsenal in the final later this month.

Meanwhile, they face Newcastle United this weekend, hoping to advance to the last eight of the FA Cup.

“But I’m pretty sure next season will be better. Next season will be better. I don’t have doubts about that”, Guardiola added.

Manchester City have already defeated Newcastle three times in 2026 and will be eyeing another crucial win to seal their spot in the quarterfinals of the FA Cup.
