Cristhian Mosquera has said he is pleased with his move to Arsenal last summer, crediting it as an important factor in earning his debut for Spain’s national team.
The young defender joined the Gunners on a long-term deal during the 2025 summer transfer window in a deal worth around £13 million from Spanish side Valencia, where he had spent his entire senior career.
Mosquera was handed his maiden call-up to the Spanish senior team ahead of the friendlies against Serbia and Egypt this month and made his debut against the former last week after coming off the bench in the 3-0 win.
Speaking during an interview, the 21-year-old believes moving to the North London club has proven to be the right step in his career.
“I had spent almost my entire life in Valencia and leaving what had been my home was not easy. But it was the right decision”, Mosquera said.
“I feel very comfortable in London and have settled in faster than I thought. I knew that the Premier League is a physical league, and many had said that my playing style would suit there. When the chance came to take the next step and show what I can do, I think I took it.”
The Arsenal defender also hailed the impact of William Saliba and Gabriel Magalhaes in helping him settle quickly at the club.
While he has mostly been limited to substitute appearances this season, Mosquera has still featured 25 times across all competitions in his debut campaign in England.
“From day one they have supported me, given me advice and looked after me, like older siblings. I am very grateful”, Mosquera added.
“They are two of the best centre-backs in the world, and it is a pleasure to train with them and watch them play every week,” he concluded.
The 21-year-old will look to start for the first time for the national team when Spain take on Egypt on Tuesday.
