Guardiola hails Manchester City’s performance after big win at Chelsea

Pep Guardiola has expressed satisfaction with Manchester City’s overall performance after their dominant 3-0 win over Chelsea in the Premier League on Sunday.

City went into the clash needing a big result to close the gap at the top following Arsenal’s defeat on Saturday and they took their chance with a superb performance.

The gap at the top is now six points, although the Cityzens have played a game less and now head into next weekend’s showdown against the league leaders with everything to play for.

Speaking after the match, Guardiola was impressed with how his side turned up to keep the title race well on.

“I was happy. Winning away in a Premier League ground like Stamford Bridge, the fans are happy. We are happier”, Guardiola said.

“Second half was a thousand times much better. It was not bad the first half, but some players were not as they were meant to be.”

Chelsea had the better chances in the first half and almost went ahead, but Marc Cucurella’s strike was ruled out for offside.

City improved in the second half and opened scoring in the 51st minute when Nico O’Reilly headed home after a delivery from Rayan Cherki.

Marc Guehi added a second goal few minutes later, before an error at the back from Moises Caicedo allowed Jeremy Doku to score City’s third and round off a superb display.

“The past is something unique. But we are growing. We have long weeks now, being out of the Champions League. We are more fresh, training everybody, people understand more what to do. That’s the reality”, Guardiola continued.

“Three opponents, three Champions League and not for 90 minutes, but we were solid enough not to concede much.”

Manchester City will now face Arsenal in the Premier League next Sunday with a chance to further reduce the gap at the top of the standings and keep their fight for the title alive.
