Luca Ranieri expressed satisfaction after Fiorentina battled to a gritty draw against Lecce, securing a valuable point in their fight to maintain distance from the relegation zone.
In what proved to be a demanding contest, Fiorentina showed composure early on before being pushed back by a spirited Lecce side in the second half.
Nevertheless, the visitors held firm to ensure they returned home with something to show for their efforts.
“It may not have been pretty but we played well in the first half. Our passing was good. We did well in the second half too when they started pushing with the fans behind them,” said Ranieri.
“We probably dropped a bit too deep but it’s a decent point and a point was by no means a given after all the matches we’ve played in the last fortnight. We’re very happy with the performance.”
As the game progressed, Fiorentina had to dig deep, demonstrating resilience under pressure.
Ranieri highlighted the team’s growing mentality, pointing to a clear shift in approach since the arrival of the current coach.
“Since the coach came in, we’ve all turned things around. You can see our desire on the field. There was a time when we would have got nothing from a game like this.
“I remember Verona and Como… Lecce were better in the second half today but we held in there. Now we’ll have two days off and then we’ll start preparing for Sassuolo.”
With a crucial point secured, Fiorentina now look ahead to their next challenge against Sassuolo, aiming to build on their momentum as the season edges toward its conclusion.
