Daniel Farke has applauded Leeds United performance after they rallied to seal a last-gasp 2-2 draw at Bournemouth on Wednesday.
The Whites are almost assured of survival and will have Sean Longstaff to thank, after the midfielder came off the bench to score a 97th minute equalizer.
They are now up to 40 points and are now nine points above the drop zone with four games left for them to play this season.
Reacting to the result, Farke hailed his side’s display as they moved a step closer to Premier League survival.
“I am experienced long enough in this world, we will celebrate when it’s mathematically done”, Farke said.
“It’s too early. We are on 40 points, seven games unbeaten in all competitions, so I am confident. Why should we lose the last four games?
“I am just proud of my boys because we have lost lots of energy in the last couple of weeks, and today was one of fight, mentality, belief and fighting until the end,” he added.
After a goalless first half, Junior Kroupi broke the deadlock in the 60th minute, but Leeds were right back in the game through an own goal from James Hill.
Rayan’s goal few minutes from full time looked to have sealed the win, before drama unfolded late in the game.
Bournemouth scored a third through Evanilson, but it was ruled out for offside, before Leeds went on to score a late leveller at the other end to seal a dramatic finish.
“In our home game [against Bournemouth], we were the better side, and we conceded a late equaliser. Today, it was the other way around”, Farke continued.
“Bournemouth were on it today. It’s Andoni’s [Iraola] last few games and I expected an emotional home side, and I think they were the better side. But we found a way to fight against all the setbacks. Priceless for us and very proud of the boys.”
Leeds United will now turn their attention to the FA Cup, where they face an out of sorts Chelsea in the semifinal on Sunday, hoping to continue their fairytale run with a win.
