Flick provides update on Yamal after Barcelona’s win over Celta Vigo

Hansi Flick has provided the latest injury update on teenage sensation Lamine Yamal, following Barcelona’s hard-fought 1-0 win over Celta Vigo on Wednesday.

The Catalan giants extended their lead at the top of the La Liga standings back to nine points with the victory, but were dealt a big blow when Yamal pulled up with an apparent hamstring injury in the first half.

The youngster had put Barcelona in front from the penalty spot, but immediately went down and had to be substituted before the interval, with concerns over the extent of his injury at such an important time of the season.

However, Yamal was not the only player who went off injured, with Joao Cancelo also going off earlier in the game with another injury problem.

Speaking after the match, Flick expressed concerns over the growing injury concerns and is hopeful of having the pair back in time before the end of the season.

“We’ll have to see what happens tomorrow with Lamine. With a clear diagnosis. It’s not easy, we have to accept it. Just like Joao. Let’s hope they aren’t serious injuries”, Flick said.

Yamal’s goal was enough to give Barcelona the win and see their lead increase back to nine points, with only six games left to play.

Flick also hailed his side’s resilience as they held on against a tough opposition.

“We’re happy. We had to suffer a lot today. Celta plays very well. The first half was very difficult, different from what we expected. In the end, the important thing is that we got the three points,” he added.

“We usually control the game. They pressed us high up the pitch with a lot of intensity. It’s not easy to create play and chances. We lost possession a few easy times and it wasn’t good for us.”

Meanwhile, Barcelona will hope Yamal’s injury isn’t too serious as they prepare for their next outing against Getafe on Saturday.
