Liverpool provide fitness update on Salah ahead of Manchester United test

Liverpool manager Arne Slot has shared the latest injury update on Egyptian superstar Mohamed Salah ahead of their crucial Premier League meeting with Manchester United on Sunday.

The 33-year-old, who is expected to leave the Premier League champions at the end of the season after nine hugely successful years, will sit out the trip to Old Trafford as he continues his recovery from injury.

Salah came off injured during Liverpool’s 3-1 win over Crystal Palace last weekend, a game in which he had scored and there had been doubts over his chances of returning before the end of the season.

However, Liverpool manager Slot has revealed that while the forward will be unavailable for selection against Manchester United, he is expected to play a part in the club’s run-in.

“As we know from Mo, he is always working incredibly hard when he is fit but also when he is injured to be back as soon as possible.”, Slot said.

“We expect him to be back for the final part of the season but not for Sunday.

“In all ways it is a big relief that his injury is minor so he is able to play for us [again] and at the World Cup. If ever there was a player that deserves a big send-off, it is definitely Mo.”

Liverpool visit Manchester United on Sunday, with both sides fighting for a top five finish to seal Champions League qualification ahead of next season.

The Reds’ final game of the season is at Anfield against Brentford, giving them the perfect chance to plan a proper send-off for Salah.

Slot also provided updates on the return of Brazilian goalkeeper Alisson Becker, who has been out of action for a while with injury.

“He is very close to training with us. I have to hear today from the medical staff if he is able to train with us today, tomorrow or the start of next week. He’s very close. We never want to take a risk with a player”, the Liverpool boss added.

After the game against United, the Reds will then face Chelsea and Aston Villa, before finishing their campaign at home against Brentford.
