Brighton & Hove Albion head coach Fabian Hurzeler has called for a strong response from his side after their unbeaten league run came to an end against Newcastle United.
In a match that swung on key moments, Brighton struggled to convert their chances, allowing Newcastle to seize control when it mattered most.
As a result, the Seagulls slipped to seventh place, dealing a blow to their push for European qualification.
“You can feel it from when we had the first chance that they always created this danger,” said Hurzeler.
“You could also feel it on the pitch and also in the stadium.”
As the game unfolded, Hurzeler admitted his side failed to capitalize when opportunities came their way—a turning point that ultimately defined the contest.
“It was unlucky for us in the end, we missed the chances in the end, we weren’t able to manage these key moments well.”
From a tactical standpoint, the Brighton boss stressed the need for sharper decision-making and stronger defensive cohesion, especially in high-pressure phases of play.
“Therefore we have to analyse it, we definitely can defend better as a team, we definitely can manage the key moments better.”
Despite the setback, Hurzeler was quick to highlight the positives, pointing to his team’s effort, intent, and commitment throughout the match.
“When we just focus on performance and how we tried to play our football then I think the players did everything what they can do.
“They showed great effort always to believe they can win this game.”
Now, as the season enters its final stretch, Brighton must quickly regroup. With three matches left, the race for Europe is still alive—but only if they respond with urgency and precision.
“We will take the positives away and we will analyse it, then we bounce back.”
All things considered, Brighton remain firmly in the hunt. The next fixtures will be decisive, and Hurzeler’s message is clear—reset, refocus, and go again.
