Jarrod Bowen has expressed disappointment after West Ham United’s 3-0 defeat to Brentford on Saturday, but has backed them to return to form and avoid relegation this season.
The Hammers suffered a first league defeat in four games and now stand the risk of dropping back into the drop zone if Tottenham Hotspur win their own game against Aston Villa.
Nuno Espirito Santo’s men have endured a tough campaign so far and with only few games left in the campaign, they must now target maximum points in all games to stand a chance of survival.
Speaking after the defeat, club captain Bowen believes the players possess the mentality and quality to return to winning ways in their next outing.
“You have to react in the right way. It’s going to hurt today because we had good opportunities. But what we have to do now is focus on the next games. We have three games left and every one is a cup final”, Bowen said.
“There’s so much on the line. We can’t let the last few weeks go away because of this result today. On another day, we would have got the win today. We’ve done a lot of good things.”
Konstantinos Mavropanos’ own goal put the hosts ahead in the 15th minute, while Igor Thiago added a second from the penalty spot in the second half.
There was time for Mikkel Damsgaard to score a third, as Brentford condemned West Ham United to a defeat that puts a major dent in their survival chances.
“Everyone has to stick together, as cliché as it sounds. We’ve got a really good group. It’s down to the senior players to stand up. We can’t dwell on this. We have to move forward because there’s no other way”, Bowen added.
Meanwhile, West Ham United face another tough outing in their next clash when they face title hopefuls Arsenal on Sunday.
