David Moyes has given his verdict on Everton’s dramatic 3-3 draw with Manchester City in the Premier League on Monday night.
The Cityzens suffered a major blow in their title challenge on Monday after they forced a draw in the encounter, handing Arsenal the advantage in the title race.
Everton were even 3-1 ahead at a point, before City fought back to avoid defeat with two late goals in the encounter.
The Toffees were also wasteful and could have scored more, leaving Moyes to rue what could have been in the clash.
“We let ourselves down because we defended the second goal so poorly. Look, at half-time we would have taken the result because we were hugely outplayed in the first half”, Moyes said after the game.
“I wanted us to get a little bit closer to City. We couldn’t get near them and, to be fair, they played really well as well. I have to give them huge credit for that. It was probably the poorest we have played here, certainly against the better teams this season. The players made a great effort to get us in the game and, really, when we got to 3-1, we should be doing enough to see it out.”
Jeremy Doku (2) and Erling Haaland scored for Manchester City, while Thierno Barry also grabbed a brace for Everton, either side of a goal from Jake O’Brien.
“Barry? He’s had quite a difficult time recently. He came off the bench and got himself a couple of goals, which is a great thing for any striker and will give him great confidence. I’m really pleased for him”, Moyes said.
“European qualification? I’m not sure. I think it’s going to be tough. In the last couple of games, we’ve lost games late on, and today we’ve drawn. It could and probably will have an impact on our final position,” Moyes concluded, giving his thought on Everton’s European hopes.
Everton now sit 10th on the Premier League standings with 48 points, three behind Brentford in seventh place, with just three games left to play.
