De Zerbi optimistic of Tottenham Hotspur’s survival ahead of Leeds clash

Roberto De Zerbi has expressed optimism over Tottenham Hotspur’s chances of beating the drop this season ahead of Monday’s clash against Leeds United.

Spurs moved outside the drop zone last weekend when they defeated Aston Villa, following West Ham United’s defeat at Brentford.

It also marked their second straight Premier League win and the first time they have won two league games in a row since the opening two weekends of the season.

Speaking ahead of their clash against Leeds at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium on Monday night, De Zerbi has urged his side to show the same mentality as they did in recent games to secure a favourable result.

“First of all we are playing against one of the best teams in the league, in this moment. In the last five or six games, they won against Manchester United, they drew in Bournemouth playing well, they won at home two times – Wolves and Burnley – and for that we have a big respect”, De Zerbi said.

“We can’t think in a different way. We have to keep this mentality. We must remain humble. Nothing has changed. We have to prepare for an important game.”

Leeds United are unbeaten in their last six league matches, winning three times and recording three draws in that period.

Meanwhile, Spurs must win their remaining three matches to be certain of survival at the end of the season.

“We have to focus on this type of game [positive recent performances against Wolves, Brighton and Aston Villa] with this type of attitude, spirit and showing the qualities of the players”, De Zerbi added.

A win on Monday will move Tottenham closer to survival, before their final two games of the season against Chelsea and Everton.
