Rashford eyes long-term stay at Barcelona after La Liga win

Marcus Rashford has revealed his desire to remain at Barcelona beyond this summer, after helping the club to the La Liga title with a 2-0 win over Real Madrid on Sunday.

The Catalan giants won the league title against their arch rivals for the first time in history on Sunday night, sealing a second consecutive title and their third in four seasons.

Rashford, who joined Barcelona on loan from Manchester United last summer, opened the scoring with an exquisite free-kick, before Ferran Torres scored a second after brilliant play by Dani Olmo.

Speaking to reporters after the match, the England winger is open to a long-term stay at the Spanish club and wants to achieve more success as well.

“I don’t know”, Rashford said, when asked about his future.

“I am not a magician, but if I was, I would stay. We will see. I came here to win. I want to win as many things as I can. This is one more to add to this.

“This is a wonderful team, they’re going to win so much in the future; to be a part of that would be special.”

Barcelona have the option to sign Rashford on a permanent deal for around €30 million, but are seeking to renegotiate another loan offer with Manchester United.

However, the English side are not willing to change their stance which has cast doubts over the future of the 28-year-old.

“This is the perfect way I want it to end. I’m very happy, I just want to enjoy today.

“I live in the moment. At the end of the season we will see. I came here to win and we do this, so I’m very happy. It’s an incredible feeling”, Rashford added.

“The feeling is amazing. It’s been a long season with ups and downs, but I think we deserved to win [LaLiga].”

After winning the first-ever league title of his career, Rashford’s future will be a topic of discussion in the coming weeks, although it is very likely he remains at Barcelona beyond this season.
