Manchester City close in on Arsenal with dominant win over Crystal Palace

Manchester City kept pressure on Arsenal at the top of the Premier League table following their comfortable 3-0 win over Crystal Palace on Wednesday.

The Cityzens had entered the clash with a five-point deficit, but are now just two points behind the Gunners with two matches remaining.

Pep Guardiola made six changes to the lineup with an eye on the weekend FA Cup final against Chelsea at Wembley. Josko Gvardiol, Savinho, Omar Marmoush and Phil Foden were among the players to come in while the likes of Erling Haaland, Jeremy Doku and Rayan Cherki dropped to the bench.

The game started off slowly, but England international Foden strengthened his case for an invitation to the World Cup with a stunning display.

He created five chances in the first half – the most of any player in the first half of a Premier League match this season and also provided the assist for the first two goals.

His backheel found Antoine Semenyo, who opened the scoring in the 32nd minute, finishing past Dean Henderson in the Palace goal.

Then, Marmoush wasted a glorious chance to double the tally, although he did that with his next chance of the game with a good finish as City went into the break two goals ahead.

Cherki, who had come on in the second half, combine with Savinho, as the Brazilian scored a third in the closing stages of the match to seal a comfortable win and keep City’s treble chase alive.

Manchester City now head into the FA Cup final, hoping to complete their sweep of domestic cup competitions this season after edging Arsenal to win the EFL Cup.

They will then shift attention back to the Premier League, with games against Bournemouth and Aston Villa still to come.

Meanwhile, Arsenal have fairly easy games, first at home to Burnley this weekend and then at Crystal Palace on the final day of the season.
