Arsenal crowned Premier League champions after Man City’s draw at Bournemouth

Arsenal have been crowned champions of England for the first time in 22 years after Manchester City were held to a 1-1 draw at Bournemouth on Tuesday night.

The Cityzens needed to win their match at the Vitality Stadium to send the title race into the final day, but were denied by Andoni Iraola’s side as Arsenal were crowned champions.

The Gunners had finished second in the last three league seasons and now win their first title since the Invincibles in the 2003-04 season.

It also marked Arsenal’s 14th English top-flight title and is the first time a team apart from City or Liverpool have won the title since 2017.

Mikel Arteta also becomes the first former Premier League player to win the title as a manager, as well as the second Spanish manager, following in the footsteps of his mentor Pep Guardiola.

Bournemouth started well against City and went in front in the first half when Eli Junior Kroupi sent home a stunning effort past Gianluigi Donnarumma.

Erling Haaland scored a stoppage-time equalizer for the visitors, but it proved too late as the game ended in a stalemate which leaves City four points adrift heading into the final day of the season.

Arsenal had led the standings for a large chunk of the season but briefly surrendered the lead to City last month, before reclaiming their position once again after a run of impressive results.

They have conceded only 26 goals from their 37 games so far and have also managed 19 clean sheets, with David Raya winning the Golden Glove award for a third consecutive season.

Arsenal will now shift their attention to the UEFA Champions League final in Budapest on May 30, where they will challenge reigning champions Paris Saint-Germain to win their first ever UCL crown.
