Arsenal’s Rice sends emotional message after West Ham United relegation

Declan Rice has shared an emotional response following West Ham United’s relegation from the Premier League, admitting he is “gutted” to see his former club drop into the Championship.

The Arsenal midfielder, who captained the Hammers before his move to north London, was visibly frustrated on the Premier League’s final day after Tottenham secured survival and condemned West Ham to relegation.

Rice was spotted reacting emotionally as the results filtered through during Arsenal’s clash with Crystal Palace on Sunday.

Taking to Instagram on Tuesday, the England international delivered a heartfelt message to the club where he developed into one of Europe’s top midfielders.

“I’m absolutely gutted to see West Ham relegated. A club that really does mean so much to me,” he wrote.

“As I said before, I wouldn’t be where I am today without everything the club has done for me.

“With that being said, I have no doubt they’ll be back where they belong in the Premier League in no time. I’ll be supporting always.”

West Ham’s relegation marks a devastating end to a disappointing campaign that saw the club struggle for consistency throughout the season.

Despite major investment in recent years and success in European competition, the Hammers were unable to avoid the drop after Tottenham narrowly secured safety on the final day.

Rice’s message will resonate deeply with supporters, many of whom still regard the Arsenal midfielder as one of the club’s modern legends following his rise through the academy and leadership during some of their most successful recent years.

The focus now turns toward rebuilding for an immediate return to the Premier League as the Hammers prepare for life in the Championship.
