Mason Mount has backed Andrey Santos to hit the ground running and play a key role after completing a move to Manchester United.
The Brazilian midfielder joined the Red Devils in a £48 million deal earlier this month from Chelsea, and has already showed glimpses of his brilliance in their preseason games so far.
Manchester United had been searching for replacement for Casemiro, who left the club at the end of last season when his contract expired.
The three-time European champions have also signed Youri Tielemans from Aston Villa as well, although there are still reports that another midfielder could be added before the end of the transfer window.
However, Mount, who also joined Manchester United from Chelsea has backed Santos to slot in perfectly for Casemiro in the number ‘6’ role.
“Andrey is a really good player. He reads the game brilliantly”, Mount said.
“I know he’s young, but he’s very experienced in going out on loan and playing in the Premier League as well.
We’re both players that want to get around it, want to put tackles in and win the ball back and be aggressive.”
Manchester United lost 1-0 to Wrexham in their first preseason game, but bounced back with a 5-0 rout of Rosenborg on Friday.
“I’ve really enjoyed it. It’s a position that I love and that I see myself in.
“Defensively we’re both players that want to get around it, want to put tackles in and win the ball back and be aggressive”, Mount continued.
“I’ve known Andrey for a while. I’ve watched him from afar, since he’s broken into the first team at Chelsea.”
Both Santos and Mount will be eyeing major roles for Manchester United in Michael Carrick’s first full season at the club, beginning with their opening league clash against newly promoted side Hull City on August 22.
