Mohamed Salah enjoyed a stunning weekend on the pitch, but the former Liverpool star has been hit with an unwelcome legal setback away from football.
The Egyptian forward scored a hat-trick and provided an assist as Trabzonspor demolished Galatasaray 4-0 in the Turkish Super Lig.
But while Salah’s form continues to turn heads in Türkiye, a court case in England has resulted in a six-month driving ban and a £1,044 financial penalty.
According to court documents reported by The Sun, a Rolls-Royce registered to Salah was recorded travelling at 36mph in a 30mph zone in Wilmslow, Cheshire, on March 27.
However, the conviction relates to Salah’s failure to provide information identifying the person driving the vehicle.
The available court documents do not establish that Salah himself was behind the wheel when the speeding offence occurred.
Salah reportedly failed to respond to a notice of prosecution issued by Cheshire Constabulary and did not enter a plea.
He was subsequently prosecuted at Warrington Combined Court under the Single Justice Procedure and convicted of failing to provide information relating to the identification of the driver.
The 34-year-old was then handed a six-month driving ban and ordered to pay a total of £1,044.
The timing of the incident is also notable.
It came just three days after Liverpool announced that Salah would leave the club at the end of the 2025/26 season, bringing his remarkable nine-year spell at Anfield towards its conclusion.
Since moving to Trabzonspor, however, the Egyptian has wasted little time reminding everyone of his goalscoring pedigree.
His hat-trick against Galatasaray took his tally to seven goals in six league appearances for his new club.
Trabzonspor went into the clash with a mixed record, having won two, drawn one and lost two of their opening five league fixtures.
Galatasaray, meanwhile, had started the campaign unbeaten.
None of that mattered once Salah found his rhythm.
The Egyptian produced a commanding individual display, scoring three times and setting up another goal as Trabzonspor swept aside the previously unbeaten league leaders.
The performance also strengthened the impression that Salah has quickly carried his prolific scoring habits from England to Türkiye.
Liverpool supporters became accustomed to watching him deliver goals season after season during his time at Anfield, and the early numbers at Trabzonspor suggest that trend is continuing.
Salah will now have to put the off-field matter behind him as his attention turns back to international football.
The forward is next expected to be in action for Egypt on Friday when they face Angola in an Africa Cup of Nations qualifier.
