Manchester City boss Enzo Maresca has delivered a glowing assessment of Ayyoub Bouaddi, highlighting the midfielder’s ability to raise the performance levels of those around him.
Maresca believes Bouaddi possesses a rare quality that separates top players from the rest: the ability to make teammates better simply by sharing the pitch with them.
The City manager was particularly impressed by the midfielder’s influence on the collective performance of his team, stressing that his contribution goes beyond individual technical ability.
“Bouaddi is fantastic. The good thing about Ayyoub is when he’s on the pitch, he’s improving the ones around him – this is just from top players.
“The feeling I have is when he’s on the pitch, all the ones around him are better players.”
Maresca’s comments underline his admiration for a player whose impact can be measured not only through his own performances but also through the improvement he brings to those playing alongside him.
In modern football, midfielders are increasingly expected to do more than retain possession, dictate tempo or contribute to attacking moves. The most influential players often create the conditions for their teammates to perform at a higher level, whether through intelligent positioning, decision-making, movement or their ability to link different areas of the pitch.
Bouaddi’s influence appears to fit that profile, according to Maresca. The manager’s assessment suggests that the youngster brings qualities that benefit the entire team rather than simply making him stand out individually.
For a coach who places considerable importance on collective performance, that kind of influence can be invaluable. A midfielder capable of connecting teammates, creating space and helping others make better decisions can become a key figure in a team’s tactical structure.
Maresca’s praise also reflects the standards he associates with elite footballers. His emphasis on Bouaddi improving those around him indicates that he values players who elevate the overall quality of a team, rather than those who focus solely on personal statistics or individual recognition.
Although the comments were brief, the message was clear: Bouaddi’s value extends beyond what he produces with the ball. His presence appears to have a positive effect on the players around him, making him an exciting prospect to watch.
As Manchester City continue to pursue consistency and quality across their performances, Maresca’s assessment offers an insight into the type of attributes he appreciates in a midfielder.
For Bouaddi, such praise from a manager of Maresca’s profile provides a strong endorsement of his potential and influence. The challenge will be to maintain that impact, continue developing his game and translate those qualities into consistent performances at the highest level.
If he continues to improve the players around him, Bouaddi could become an increasingly influential figure in the midfield conversation.
