“Can change the game in a second”- Manchester United interim coach Ruud Van Nistelrooy shares take on Gyokeres and Hojlund comparison

Manchester United coach Ruud Van Nistelrooy has backed striker Rasmus Hojlund to start producing goals for the club consistently despite his slow start to life.

Hojlund joined Manchester United from Atalanta last year in a deal worth €73.9 million. But it has been a slow start to life for the 21-year-old Danish man.

Hojlund has struggled to stay fit since his transfer to Old Trafford. And when he has been available, he has produced just 18 goals and two assists in 53 appearances for the Red Devils.

Due to his inconsistency, the club splashed €42.5 million on Dutch striker Joshua Zirkzee, who has also been largely unimpressive.

Meanwhile, as Hojlund has been struggling at Manchester United, Swedish striker Viktor Gyokeres has been firing on all cylinders at Portugal Primera Liga club Sporting CP.

He has been in red-hot form, supplying 23 goals a six assists in 17 appearances. Due to his impressive performances, Gyokeres has attracted attention from some of the biggest clubs in Europe. He has even been compared with Hojlund, who has been largely disappointing at Manchester United.

Nonetheless, Manchester United interim boss Van Nistelrooy believes his hitman has a lot a of quality and is a decisive game-changer on his day.

“Rasmus has to stay calm and believe in himself. He’s a guy with great potential who can change the game in a second,” Van Nistelrooy said, per Fabrizio Romano.

Manchester United just confirmed the appointment of Ruben Amorim as the new permanent coach. Hence, Hojlund is condemned to start putting up impressive performances if he wants to remain at Old Trafford.

If he continues to struggle, he could eventually get offloaded to another club in a few years.
