Vinicius Junior tenders apology after El Clasico substitution drama

Real Madrid forward Vinicius Junior has issued a public apology for his outburst after being substituted during Sunday’s El Clasico clash against Barcelona.

Vini reacted angrily when head coach Xabi Alonso decided to withdraw him in the second half of Real Madrid’s 2-1 victory, which was sealed by goals from Kylian Mbappe and Jude Bellingham.

The Brazil international has been a key figure for Los Blancos this season, making 13 appearances across all competitions, starting in ten of those outings and contributing five goals and four assists.

Reports in Spain suggest tensions have been growing between the winger and Alonso, with the Brazilian reportedly frustrated by his manager’s tactical approach. His frustration appeared to boil over at the weekend, when he allegedly hinted at the possibility of leaving the club.

However, on Wednesday, Vinícius moved to ease the situation, offering a public apology for his behaviour and reaffirming his commitment to the team.

“Today I want to apologise to all the Madridistas for my reaction when I was substituted in the Clasico,” his statement read.

“Just as I have already done in person during today’s training, I also want to apologise again to my team-mates, the club, and the president. Sometimes passion gets the better of me because I always want to win and help my team.

“My competitive character stems from the love I feel for this club and everything it represents. I promise to keep fighting every second for the good of Real Madrid, as I have done since the first day.”

Despite the apology, Vinicius’ lack of reference to his manager has raised further questions about their relationship. Real Madrid fans will be hoping both parties can quickly bury that ugly episode and focus on the quest to reinstate Los Blancos as kings of Spain and Europe.
