Ryan Sessegnon scored the only goal of the encounter as Fulham recorded a hard-fought 1-0 win over Aston Villa in the Premier League on Saturday.
The versatile left-back fired home in the first half to gift the Cottagers their first win in three games and revive their hopes of finishing in an European spot at the end of the season.
Fulham had dropped outside the top half following a series of poor performances, while Villa were firmly in the race for Champions League qualification and were looking to keep the pace with their rivals.
There was very little chances in the first half with Raul Jimenez heading straight at Emiliano Martinez, while Aston Villa went close through Morgan Rogers and Ollie Watkins, who were keen on impressing England head coach Thomas Tuchel in the stands at Craven Cottage.
However, it was the hosts who went ahead two minutes before the break when Martinez pushed a header into the path of Sessegnon, who then lashed home into the net as Fulham went into the halftime interval ahead.
The home side continued their dominance in the second half and even added a second through Timothy Castagne, but the goal was ruled out by VAR for a foul on Martinez by Sander Berge.
Despite Aston Villa’s late pressure, Fulham edged the encounter and sealed all three points for their first win of April.
Meanwhile, they also moved up to 10th on the standings with 48 points, level on points with West London rivals Chelsea in eighth and just a point off an European finish.
Fulham now have four matches left this season to secure a first European qualification since the 2011-12 season, with games against Arsenal, Bournemouth, Wolves and Newcastle United still to come.
