Man United’s Amorim stands firm on Mainoo snub amid rising questions

Ruben Amorim stood his ground as questions over Kobbie Mainoo dominated a tense press conference at Old Trafford.

The Manchester United manager has yet to start the 20-year-old in the Premier League this season.

Mainoo also watched Thursday’s 1-1 draw with West Ham from the bench without coming on.

Reporters pressed Amorim repeatedly, but he remained firm.

He insisted his decisions are based only on winning matches.

“I see it,” he said when asked if he feared Mainoo might feel demoralised. “I just want to win, I try to put the players, I don’t look who it is, I don’t care about that, I’m just trying to put the best players on the pitch.”

The questions kept coming, and Amorim pushed back again. He acknowledged the media’s concerns but refused to change his stance.

“Of course, I understand, and my job is to answer, but I’m trying to answer always the same thing, and you ask me always the same thing.

“I understand what you are saying. You love Kobbie, he starts for England. But that doesn’t mean that I need to put Kobbie [in] when I feel that I shouldn’t put Kobbie [in], so it’s my decision.”

As United prepare to face Wolves on Monday Night Football, Amorim’s message remains clear: selection is his call, and he won’t be swayed.
