Liverpool confirm Alexander Isak injury blow following surgery

Liverpool’s budding resurgence has been dealt a significant setback after the club confirmed Alexander Isak has undergone surgery following an ankle injury sustained at the weekend.

The Reds’ worst fears were realised on Monday evening when a club statement revealed the Swedish striker required an operation to address damage to his ankle, including a fractured fibula.

What initially appeared to be a painful knock has now evolved into a major concern, with Isak facing a spell on the sidelines. The injury came during Liverpool’s 2–1 victory over Tottenham in London, a game that briefly showcased the promise Isak brings to Anfield.

The 25-year-old found the net in the capital, scoring only his second goal for the club since completing a Premier League record £125 million move last summer. However, the celebrations were short-lived as he was forced off, casting a shadow over an otherwise positive afternoon for Arne Slot’s side.

In the hours following the match, Liverpool sources hinted at growing concern over the severity of the injury. Any lingering optimism quickly evaporated as medical assessments continued, with the club ultimately moving to clarify the situation.

“Alexander Isak today successfully underwent surgery on the injury he sustained on Saturday,” the statement read.

“The Liverpool striker was injured in a challenge in the process of scoring the opening goal against Tottenham Hotspur and had to be substituted.

“After diagnosis, an operation was completed today on an ankle injury that included a fibula fracture. Isak’s rehabilitation will now continue at the AXA Training Centre, with no timeframe yet placed on his return.”

Isak is expected to be sidelined for at least a few months, including Liverpool’s busy winter schedule. The reigning Premier League champions will have to rely on Hugo Ekitike for that period or find a replacement for their injured star center forward.
