Slot attributes Liverpool’s success to ‘Level-headed’ approach ahead of Aston Villa game

Liverpool’s head coach Arne Slot has warned that his side will not be carried away by their brilliant form into the season. The Reds have won 14 out of their first 16 games of the season and are top of the English Premier League with a two-point cushion over rivals Manchester City. They are also top of the new 36-team UEFA Champions League after four wins from four games.

“We are there to do our work and become better players on a daily basis or keep having the same level,” he said.

“It’s not the first time that this club is where it is at the moment. I think for most of these players it is a normal situation and I don’t think they get carried away at all by us being top of the league at the moment”.

Slot took over from former boss Jurgen Klopp in the summer and even though his side have been very impressive this season, he has insisted that everybody at the club are ‘level-headed’.

“They know how small the margins are when it comes to our results and the amount of points we are ahead of the other teams.”

He added: “I’m not trying to manage expectations with the squad because we don’t talk about expectations”.

Liverpool’s most recent victory was a 4-0 demolition of German Champions Bayer Leverkusen in the Champions League and they will be expected to challenge for trophies on all front this season.

“The only expectations I have is that they put the same effort in on a daily basis. That’s the only thing we focus on”.

Arne Slot and Liverpool will hope to continue their exceptional form when they face Unai Emery’s Aston Villa side in a Saturday night Premier League fixture.
