Carrick confirms ownership talks as United prepare for Manchester derby

Michael Carrick has revealed that he recently held talks with Manchester United’s ownership group during their visit to Carrington.

The gaffer offered insight into the growing lines of communication behind the scenes as the club prepares for a crucial stretch of the season.

The United head coach, currently in charge for the remainder of the 2025/26 campaign, confirmed that the meeting took place earlier this week when the ownership group stopped by the training ground.

While the visit was largely business-focused, Carrick acknowledged the opportunity to briefly exchange views and receive encouragement ahead of Saturday’s high-stakes derby clash with Manchester City.

Alongside those discussions, Carrick has maintained close contact with the club’s senior football leadership, working regularly with director of football Jason Wilcox and chief executive officer Omar Berrada since stepping into the role.

As momentum builds towards the weekend showdown, the United boss underlined the importance of alignment at every level of the club.

“I’ve spoken to Jason an awful lot and been working closely with him, and Omar as well,” Carrick said.

“Over the last few days, we’ve spoken a lot, as you’d imagine.

“The owners, the ownership group, were in and around it, so it was nice to see them and meet them yesterday and have a small chat.

“They were taking care of business in some ways but we were able to share a few things, and they wished us all the very best. It was good to see them.”

With the derby fast approaching, focus now shifts back to the pitch, where Old Trafford is expected to be in full voice for the lunchtime kick-off.

The Red Devils head into the contest sitting seventh in the Premier League table, while Man City arrive in second place, six points behind leaders Arsenal.

As the red side of Manchester looks to close the gap and reignite their push up the table, Carrick’s comments reflect a club striving for unity as one of English football’s fiercest rivalries takes centre stage.
