Guardiola hails Manchester City’s big win over Fulham

Pep Guardiola has heaped praises on Manchester City’s impressive display as they eased to a 3-0 win over Fulham in Wednesday night’s Premier League clash.

The Cityzens went into the clash on the back of a dramatic 2-1 win over Liverpool at the Etihad on Sunday and had the chance to reduce Arsenal’s lead at the top to three points, with the Gunners not in action until Thursday when they face Brentford.

They raced into a three-goal lead in the first half as they sealed another impressive win to keep their title hopes alive.

After the match, Guardiola was really impressed with his side’s performance, although he maintained that his focus remains on helping the team grow.

“One of the best [performances] of this season. The next one is always tricky after the emotional games like Anfield. We adjusted a few things in our pressing, counter-pressing, with the ball. The fatigue was there. Rodri was exhausted, Bernardo was exhausted”, Guardiola stated.

“But in many things, the back four was so solid. In general I’m really pleased for the performance and for the result. The first half was outstanding, really good.

“We were together with the ball, more calm. We suffered when we went to Fulham [in December], and after a demanding game emotionally and physically at Anfield, it’s difficult. But we’ve talked a lot, I say ‘guys, we have to do it again’. And they did it”, the Spaniard added.

Antoine Semenyo continued his fine form since his arrival at the club with the opening goal, before Nico O’Reilly added a second.

Erling Haaland joined in the act with a superb finish to make it 3-0, as City recorded their 16th league win of the campaign.

Always I said the focus is grow, grow, grow. It’s how we can be more consistent over 90 minutes, how we can be better, and the players feel like ‘wow, we can do it’, in terms of mentality, battles, offensively and defensively. We are doing that”, Guardiola continued.

Manchester City will face Salford in the FA Cup this weekend, before returning to Premier League action next weekend when they face Newcastle United.
