Igor Thiago commits future to Brentford with emotional contract extension

Brentford striker Igor Thiago has pledged his long-term future to the club, signing a new deal that will keep him in west London until the summer of 2031, with the option of a further year.

The 24-year-old has been one of the Premier League’s standout performers this season, and his decision to extend his stay sends a powerful statement about the direction of the club under head coach Keith Andrews.

Thiago, who has scored 17 goals in 26 Premier League appearances this term, revealed that the bond with supporters and the tight-knit environment inside the club played decisive roles in his commitment.

“I love the club and the people in the club,” said the Brazilian forward. “It’s a true love, a real love.

“In the beginning, when I first came, I had the injury. The staff and the people around the training ground were helping me and supporting me.

“When the fans support me, and I see them singing my name and singing my song, it gives me more power. I’m really happy for all of the love they have given to me. It means so much.”

From battling an early setback through injury to becoming Brentford’s attacking spearhead, Thiago’s journey has gathered serious momentum.

Crucially, he also credited his relationship with Andrews as a key influence behind his rapid development.

“With Keith, it’s more of a relationship as a father and a son. I’m really happy with him as he trusts and believes in me.

“I’m enjoying every single day and every single training session so much. It’s been a good journey and I’m happy to be here.”

Thiago’s rise has been nothing short of remarkable. In November, he became the first Brentford player to win the Premier League Player of the Month award.

Then, in January, he delivered his first hat-trick for the club in a thrilling 4-2 victory over Everton at Hill Dickinson Stadium: a performance that underlined his clinical edge in front of goal.

However, one moment stands above the rest in his eyes. September’s 3-1 triumph over Manchester United, where he struck twice, remains a personal highlight.

“That game was a dream for me, and then to get the first goal with my left foot – it was amazing,” Thiago explained.

“God has blessed me so much through this season, so I’m really happy. I just want to keep doing the same things that I have been doing up until now – but I also think I can improve and give more for the club.

“It has been a great season for us. Everybody has been on the same page. I hope we can get something special from it.”

As Brentford enter the final stretch of the campaign, Thiago’s commitment offers both stability and ambition.

With goals flowing and unity driving the squad forward, the Bees will be aiming to turn a promising season into something truly special.
