Chelsea’s Cucurella leaves door open for return to Barcelona

Marc Cucurella has added fresh intrigue to Chelsea’s transfer narrative after admitting he would find it hard to turn down a potential return to Barcelona.

The Spanish defender, who began his professional journey at Barcelona before rising through Brighton and eventually moving to Stamford Bridge, has now opened the door, albeit cautiously, on a future switch back to La Liga.

His comments come hot on the heels of teammate Enzo Fernandez’s own remarks about a possible move to Spain, further fuelling speculation around Chelsea’s evolving squad.

Speaking while on international duty with Spain, Cucurella acknowledged the emotional pull of returning home but made it clear that timing remains key.

“At the end of the day, Spain is always Spain – it’s my country and where I grew up, and you always think about going back, but I think I’d leave it for a few years,” he said.

“I’m very happy there (in England), my family too, and as a life experience, it’s a very good one.”

As the conversation gathered pace, he did not rule out the possibility of a dramatic return to his boyhood club, though he emphasized the need for careful consideration.

“Well, it’s clear that if something like that happens, it’s difficult to turn them down, but I’d have to consider it.

“At the end of the day, it’s not just about me – I’d also have to think about my family, maybe, what’s best for them or for all of us, but as I said before, I’m not thinking about that right now.

“If it happens, it happens, and we’ll see what we decide.”

For now, Cucurella remains committed to his current chapter in England. Still, as transfer whispers continue to swirl, his words suggest that a return to the Spanish side, sooner or later, cannot be ruled out.
