Borussia Dortmund’s Schlotterbeck eyes dream move to Real Madrid

Nico Schlotterbeck has reignited transfer speculation after admitting his future at Borussia Dortmund remains unresolved, firmly putting Real Madrid back in the race for his signature.

Just when it seemed the German centre-back was set to commit his long-term future to Dortmund, the narrative has taken a late twist.

Contract renewal talks have stalled, and momentum has now swung back toward a potential summer exit.

“I’m glad you asked me that, because I read it in your news today,” he said.

“To be honest, I have to categorically deny it (that his contract renewal with Dortmund is close to being finalised). Unfortunately, we haven’t reached that point yet.”

With the ball now back in play, fresh reports suggest Schlotterbeck still harbours a strong desire to join Real Madrid, viewing the Spanish giants as his ultimate destination.

As the transfer window approaches, the situation is building toward a decisive moment.

If Dortmund fail to secure his renewal, the defender could become available for around €30 million: a fee that Los Blancos are unlikely to shy away from, especially given their ongoing search for defensive reinforcements.

Meanwhile, the spotlight remains firmly on the player’s next move. For the first time, Schlotterbeck appears to hold full control over his future, with a dream transfer within reach if he chooses to make the leap.

On the pitch, the 26-year-old has continued to impress this season. Featuring in 21 league matches, he has contributed four goals and one assist while helping his side secure eight clean sheets.

Defensively, he remains a rock at the back, averaging over 12 defensive actions per game.

As the transfer race gathers pace, all eyes will be on whether Schlotterbeck takes the decisive step toward Madrid, or opts to stay and continue his journey in Germany.
