Daniel Farke urges Leeds United toward historic FA Cup run

Daniel Farke has rallied Leeds United to seize a golden opportunity and carve out a new chapter in the club’s history by reaching the FA Cup semi-finals.

As the quarter-final stage approaches, Leeds stand on the brink of a milestone not achieved in nearly four decades.

Their last appearance at this stage dates back to 1987, when they suffered a dramatic extra-time defeat to eventual winners Coventry City at Hillsborough.

This time around, momentum is building. Leeds powered into the last eight for the first time since 2003 with a commanding win over Norwich City, setting up a high-stakes showdown against West Ham United.

Farke, however, remains grounded, balancing ambition with realism as the team navigates both league survival and cup dreams.

“The Premier League is our bread and butter, it has the highest priority, but I’m a big believer in the cup. The first time in over two decades in the FA Cup quarter-finals,” he said.

Leeds’ recent Wembley memory still lingers, having fallen short in the 2024 Championship play-off final against Southampton.

Yet, they bounced back strongly by securing automatic promotion the following season: an achievement that has strengthened belief within the squad.

“First of all [we would hope for] a better outcome than the last time we were at Wembley,” Farke added.

“But we know that to take part in a semi-final would be another chapter of history for this club because we haven’t been there for such a long time.

“To win the cup is something different, but we’ll take it step by step. We’re on a good path in the Premier League and happy to be in a quarter-final.

“We want to take it with both hands, but we are respectful that West Ham will want to do the same and also they don’t have to travel.”

Meanwhile, Leeds’ Premier League campaign remains a battle for stability. Sitting 15th and just four points above the drop zone, every match carries weight as the season enters its decisive phase.

Their survival quest resumes with a tough fixture against Manchester United.

“We have seven weeks to concentrate in order achieve our goals. The group is so committed and so together in order to achieve what we want to achieve,” Farke said.

“We have a chance, with this special and unique group, to write a chapter of history. We would do that if we achieve Premier League survival and progress through to the semi-finals of the FA Cup.”

Team news heading into the clash offers cautious optimism. Dominic Calvert-Lewin remains a doubt due to a hamstring issue, but Gabriel Gudmundsson returns from suspension, boosting defensive options.

As kickoff approaches, Leeds now face a defining moment: one that could see them not only secure their top-flight status but also take a giant stride toward FA Cup glory.
