Semenyo backs Manchester City for FA Cup success

Antoine Semenyo is confident Manchester City can complete an English domestic double this season with victory in the FA Cup.

The Cityzens defeated Arsenal 2-0 in last month’s EFL Cup final at Wembley and are hoping to add another silverware by winning the FA Cup.

City reached an eighth consecutive semifinal in the competition following their dominant 4-0 win over Liverpool in Saturday’s quarter-final encounter.

They also reached the final of last season’s edition, but suffered a shock 1-0 defeat to Crystal Palace, who won their first-ever major trophy.

Semenyo, who has enjoyed an impressive spell since joining the club from Bournemouth during the January transfer window, has backed his side to go all the way.

“That’s why I signed for Manchester City”, Semenyo said.

“I want to compete for every trophy. It’s a shame we’re not in the Champions League, but at least we have the Premier League and the FA Cup to compete in.

“Hopefully we’ll win them!”, the Ghanaian winger continued.

Manchester City thrashed Liverpool in the FA Cup quarterfinal on Saturday, advancing to another semifinal at Wembley.

Erling Haaland opened the scoring from the penalty spot in the first half, following a foul on Nico O’Reilly by Virgil Van Dijk.

The Norwegian added a second in first half stoppage-time to give his side a comfortable advantage heading into the interval.

Semenyo then continued his fine form for the Cityzens with a superb third, dinking the ball over the onrushing Giorgi Mamardashvili.

Haaland completed his hat-trick minutes later to seal a 4-0 win for City and send them on another trip to Wembley.

Manchester City will now face Southampton in the FA Cup semifinals on the weekend of April 25 and 26, with the winner of the tie facing Chelsea or Leeds United in the final.
