Rosenior slams Chelsea after Brighton & Hove Albion humbling

Chelsea boss Liam Rosenior did not hold back after his side suffered a heavy 3-0 defeat to Brighton & Hove Albion, as the Blues’ struggles in the Premier League continued in disappointing fashion.

Right from kickoff, Brighton set the tempo, striking inside the opening four minutes to seize early control.

From there, Chelsea failed to respond, and as the game progressed, the Seagulls tightened their grip: doubling their advantage shortly after the restart before sealing the result deep into stoppage time.

Consequently, the loss marked Chelsea’s fifth consecutive league defeat without finding the back of the net, further piling pressure on the squad ahead of a crucial FA Cup semi-final.

Reacting post-match, Rosenior made his frustrations clear, pointing to a lack of fight and basic discipline across the pitch.

“In the basics, in the pride you should have in wearing the shirt, that was unacceptable,” he said.

“I’ve defended the players, and I am accountable. I’ve always said that. But after tonight, I think the players as well need to have a look in the mirror for what they put in.

“We lost 80 per cent of duels. We didn’t win a header. Two of the goals come when we could head the ball. At any level, if you make those errors and lack of engagement, you’re not going to win games of football.”

However, the Chelsea boss was quick to contrast this performance with their recent outing against Manchester United, where despite defeat, the team showed far more resilience and commitment.

“I saw commitment against Manchester United three days ago. We lost the game, but the performance was very, very good. Today was the complete opposite in every aspect. That’s what disappointed me the most.”

Meanwhile, frustration is also growing among the the London giants faithful, and Rosenior acknowledged the fans’ feelings while emphasizing the urgency to bounce back.

Looking ahead, all focus now shifts to Sunday’s FA Cup semi-final against Leeds: a must-win encounter that could redefine Chelsea’s season.

“I understand why the fans are frustrated. I’m frustrated with the performances we’re putting in. I’ve just got to keep working hard with the staff, with the players.

“I need to work with the staff 24 hours a day. We need to make the correct decisions for the team for a massive game on Sunday. And we will do the very, very best we can to turn it around.”

As the final whistle echoes from this defeat, Chelsea must now regroup quickly—because in football, the next fixture always offers a chance for redemption.
