Endrick leaves door open to long-term Olympique Lyon stay

Brazilian teenage sensation Endrick has revealed that he remains open to a long-term stay at Olympique Lyon especially if they secure qualification for the UEFA Champions League.

The 19-year-old completed a season-long loan move to the French club during the winter transfer window after failing to secure playing minutes at Spanish giants Real Madrid.

The move has eventually paid off, with the young forward returning to his best and has been one of the French league’s best performers since his arrival in January.

Endrick has managed seven goals and seven assists across all competitions since making his debut in January, including 10 goal contributions in the league with Lyon currently vying for a return to the UEFA Champions League.

While he is expected to return to Real Madrid at the end of the season, Endrick has refused to rule out a permanent deal with Lyon, given that they could even book a Champions League spot ahead of next season.

“A chance that I stay if OL qualifies for the Champions League? In reality, I don’t know”, Endrick said.

“We started with a six-month loan but if I have to return to Real Madrid. I will return with pleasure. If I have to go elsewhere, I will go elsewhere. I really hope that we can qualify Lyon for the Champions League, that’s where its place is.”

The youngster was named Ligue 1 player of the month for January and has played himself back into contention to make Carlo Ancelotti’s Brazil squad for the 2026 FIFA World Cup.

Only few would have given the 19-year-old a chance of making the team earlier in the campaign, but a change in fortunes and injuries to the likes of Rodrygo and Estevao Willian, has helped his chances.

For now, Endrick’s priority will be maintaining top form and helping Lyon get into the UCL, before he can finally make a decision about his future at the end of the season.
