Antoine Semenyo grabbed the headlines after scoring the only goal of the game as Manchester City defeated Chelsea 1-0 to win the 2026 FA cup final.
The Cityzens had defeated Arsenal in the final of the EFL Cup in March and completed a domestic cup double with another victory over Chelsea in Saturday’s final at Wembley.
It also keeps their hopes of a treble alive and marks the 20th trophy Pep Guardiola has won since arriving at the club 10 years ago.
The Spaniard made one notable change to the squad with Omar Marmoush coming in for Rayan Cherki, to partner Erling Haaland upfront.
Meanwhile, January arrivals Semenyo and Marc Guehi both started for Manchester City, with rthe latter having the chance to win the tournament for a second straight season.
City had reached a fourth consecutive FA Cup final, but were beaten finalists in the last two – against Manchester United and also Crystal Palace.
However, they were the better team at Wembley on Saturday and missed chances to score through Haaland and Marmoush.
Then, Semenyo headed over a glorious chance in the second half, before Rodri prevented Moises Caicedo from breaking the deadlock with a superb goal-line intervention.
Manchester City broke forward once again and Haaland crossed into the box, allowing Semenyo to produce a deft flick past Robert Sanchez to open the scoring.
The 26-year-old became the first Ghanaian to score in an FA Cup final and what a signing he has been for Manchester City since his arrival from Bournemouth in January.
Chelsea pressured late in search of an equalizer while City also struck the post through Matheus Nunes and had several other goalscoring chances, but could not add to the tally.
The game ended 1-0 as they returned to winning ways at Wembley and sealed their second trophy of the campaign.
Attention will now shift to Tuesday’s crucial Premier League meeting with Bournemouth, where they must win to keep their hopes of winning the league title alive into the final day of the season.
