Mikel Arteta has expressed delight with Arsenal’s performance after their emphatic 3-0 win over Fulham in the Premier League on Saturday.
The Gunners increased their lead at the top of the standings to six points ahead of Manchester City, who have two games in hand as the title race heats up.
Arsenal also scored three goals for the first time in the Premier League since February, when they thrashed Tottenham Hotspur 4-1 in the North London Derby.
Speaking after the match, Arteta hailed his side’s overall performance as they produced a dominant display to edge closer to ending their 22-year title drought.
“I’m extremely happy today. It was a really tough match to play. We came back to Madrid very late on Thursday. We gave so much in that match and had to play a game in good form (in Fulham)”, Arteta said.
“I think the team played incredibly well today. We dominated and showed the hunger we discussed before the game. We have the opportunity to win two major competitions.”
Victor Gyokeres and Bukayo Saka were the stars of the show, helping Arsenal to their 23rd league win of the season.
Both players combined for the first two goals, with Gyokeres scoring the first inside nine minutes, while Saka add a second later in the first half.
The Sweden forward added a third in stoppage time of first half to seal the win, as attention now shifts to their Champions League clash against Atletico Madrid in midweek.
“We’re games away from achieving that. The boys feel extremely privileged to be in that position. Today, they showed the kind of team we are”, Arteta added.
Arsenal will now welcome Atletico to the Emirates Stadium on Tuesday, hoping to book a spot in the final of the Champions League.
