Crystal Palace manager Oliver Glasner has expressed disappointment over his side’s finishing after they suffered a 1-0 defeat to Tottenham Hotspur in Sunday’s EPL clash.
The Eagles headed into the clash on the back of an agonizing penalty shootout defeat to Arsenal in the Carabao Cup quarterfinal last Tuesday, but lost for a third straight match after the result at Selhurst Park.
Despite dominating the match and producing 15 attempts on goal, they failed to find the back of the net due to poor finishing, managing only two shots on target.
They drop to ninth on the standings with 26 points, although they are just three points behind Chelsea in fourth-place.
“It feels very frustrating and disappointing. It felt like a game that you can never lose but we lost”, Glasner said after the defeat.
“It’s a little bit the story of this year. We’re constantly underperforming the chances we create and how many goals we score. We have to agree that we’re now struggling scoring goals.”
Archie Gray netted the only goal of the clash with a header three minutes before the interval to seal a second win in nine matches for Tottenham.
Richarlison also had two goals disallowed for offside in the clash, while Crystal Palace could only muster two efforts on goal despite dominating the clash.
“When we are scoring it’s often from set-plays with our defenders and our attackers. If we have chances, we’re missing them. Then we get punished by a set-play.
“I can’t remember when we dominated Tottenham like we did today in many parts of the game but in the end, where the game is decided in the box, we’re not good enough. At the moment, we have a little bit lack of finishing quality”, he continued.
Crystal Palace will hope to end their five-match winless streak when they face Fulham on New Year’s day in their next outing.
