Flick disappointed with Barcelona’s display after shock defeat at Alaves

Hansi Flick has expressed disappointment with Barcelona’s 1-0 defeat at Alaves on Wednesday, stressing the need for improvement ahead of their next clash.

The La Liga champions suffered a shock defeat the relegation-threatened side in their first match since winning the league title.

The Catalan giants beat Real Madrid 2-0 on Sunday to seal a second consecutive league title since the arrival of Hansi Flick, and their fifth trophy overall in two season.

Speaking after the match, Flick believes Barcelona played well but were unlucky not to get a result from the encounter

“I’m disappointed with the result. We wanted to win today, but I saw some positives”, Flick said post-match.

“I’m happy with the team’s performance. Álvaro made his debut and played very well. Espart and Marqués also played well, as did Bernal after his injury.

”We had chances in the first half too, but in the end we conceded from a corner. We lacked concentration at those moments. We have to accept the result and prepare for Sunday’s game.”

Hansi Flick made several changes to the lineup ahead of the clash, handing starting roles to several fringe players.

Ibrahim Diabate scored the only goal of the clash on the stroke of halftime and it lifted Alaves up to 15th on the La Liga standings, although they are only one point above the drop zone.

“The attitude and mentality were good, but it wasn’t an easy match. Alavés played very aggressively, we all saw that. In the end, that’s how it is, and we have to accept it”, Flick continued.

Barcelona return to action and will be hoping to bounce back when they face Real Betis in their next match on Sunday night.
