Hearts owners demand fair officiating against Celtic

The Foundation of Hearts has issued a strong statement ahead of Saturday’s Scottish Premiership title decider against Celtic, calling for the “highest standards of decision-making” following growing controversy surrounding recent refereeing and VAR calls.

The title race took another dramatic twist after Celtic secured a controversial late penalty in their 2-1 victory over Motherwell, a result that kept pressure firmly on league leaders Hearts.

With just one point separating the two sides heading into the final day, tensions have continued to rise across Scottish football.

Furthermore, Hearts officials and supporters have openly questioned several major officiating decisions over recent weeks.

In a statement released on Thursday, the Foundation of Hearts congratulated Derek McInnes and his squad for their remarkable campaign while also expressing concern over the standard of officiating.

“All of us at the Foundation of Hearts congratulate our magnificent team and manager, Derek McInnes, on their outstanding achievements in this momentous season, and urge all Heart of Midlothian supporters to get right behind them for Saturday’s final game of the campaign,” the statement read.

“We have, however, been extremely concerned by a number of refereeing and VAR decisions across the last two rounds of fixtures, which have had a significant impact on outcomes for Hearts and others.

“That this has occurred at such a crucial stage of the season is particularly disappointing. We understand that the club shares these concerns and has made representations to the football authorities seeking clarification on recent decisions.”

Meanwhile, scrutiny around officiating standards in Scotland has intensified following several contentious calls during the title run-in.

The Foundation also stressed the importance of maintaining trust in refereeing standards as Scottish football continues to attract global attention.

“At a time when Scottish football is subject to heightened scrutiny, both nationally and internationally, it is important that confidence in officiating standards is maintained.

“We therefore call on those responsible for the officiating of Saturday’s match to ensure that the highest standards of decision-making are applied, so that the game is decided by the players on the pitch and the team is given the fair opportunity it has earned.”

Now, all eyes turn to the massive showdown at Celtic Park, where Hearts know avoiding defeat will secure their first league title in 66 years.

With emotions already boiling over before kick-off, the pressure on match officials will be immense as Scottish football prepares for a dramatic season finale.
