Semenyo fancies Ghana’s chances ahead of England test

Antoine Semenyo has backed Ghana to put up a fight when they face England in their next group game at the ongoing 2026 FIFA World Cup tournament.

The Black Stars opened their campaign with a 1-0 win over Panama and will be eyeing a favourite result in their second group game, event though they are massive underdogs heading into that clash.

However, Semenyo is confident his side can ‘prove a point’ and show they are no pushovers.

“It’s gonna be different for sure”, Semenyo said.

“I’m looking forward to the challenge. Everyone in the Ghana team is looking forward to it, and we want to prove a point.

“We know it’s going to be a tough game. We’re not gonna get ahead of ourselves, we know we want to win that game, but we know it’s not gonna be easy either.

“So for now, it’s to make sure we recover well now and we train well leading up to the England game”, the Manchester City forward added.

Caleb Yirenkyi scored Ghana’s goal as they sealed a hard-fought win over Panama.

Semenyo created that goal, showing remarkable pace and strength before squaring the ball into the box and earned the player of the match award afterwards.

“I can’t remember what happened, I think the ball broke loose fast, and I got it. I just wanted to play it into space for Brandon, and I thought I’d over hit the pass but he got there just in time”, Semenyo added.

“When he got the ball, I wanted to cut back initially, but I made the run across the front post, completely missed the ball, but luckily it went to Caleb and he tapped it in.”

Ghana will also face Croatia in their final group game on June 27 as they aim to progress beyond the group stage after a fast start.
