Joao Pedro believes Chelsea’s new-look attack is already sending a clear warning to the rest of the Premier League.
The Brazilian forward has hailed his growing partnership with Cole Palmer and Morgan Rogers after Chelsea’s front three continued their explosive start under Xabi Alonso.
Chelsea have now scored 16 goals in just five games since Alonso took charge, with Wednesday’s thrilling 6-3 Carabao Cup victory over Leeds providing another glimpse of the attacking firepower taking shape at Stamford Bridge.
Joao Pedro has been at the heart of it.
The former Brighton forward believes the understanding between himself, Palmer and Rogers is developing quickly, with all three attackers offering different qualities while sharing the same attacking mindset.
“Our front three have started very well,” he told Sky Sports. “People can expect something from us because we are very focused on what we have to do. That is why we have started very sharply.
“When you score many goals like that, it is very good. Everyone is very excited to play, especially now we have the Premier League and the cup games, where we can get more chances to score. Everyone is very excited.
The numbers are already backing up the excitement around Chelsea’s attack.
Alonso has encouraged his forwards to play closer together, allowing them to combine, interchange positions and attack spaces with greater freedom.
For Joao Pedro, that freedom has been crucial.
“The gaffer wants us to play close to each other because he knows that if we link up, we can be very dangerous. He gives us the freedom to move into every space on the pitch. That is why we have started in that way.
“We are very similar in the way we think, but we are also different players. We complete each other. For me, it is very good when you look behind and have two No 10s like Cole and Morgan. I am very happy to play with them.
That combination could become one of Chelsea’s biggest weapons as the season gathers pace.
Palmer brings creativity and a proven eye for goal, while Rogers offers power, ball-carrying ability and the confidence to take defenders on. Joao Pedro, meanwhile, provides the natural No 9 presence capable of occupying defenders and finishing attacks.
The Brazilian believes their differences are precisely what make the partnership work.
“Cole can pass very well but he can also score. Morgan is a little bit the same so the way we think is very similar. We are all goal-oriented.
“At the same time, I am more of a No 9, Cole is more of a No 10, and Morgan is more about carrying the ball and dribbling. That is why I say we are very similar, but also different.”
Chelsea’s attacking trio now has the chance to build even greater chemistry with Premier League fixtures arriving alongside cup commitments.
For Alonso, the challenge will be maintaining the balance between attacking freedom and defensive discipline.
For Joao Pedro, Palmer and Rogers, however, the message is already clear.
They enjoy playing together, they understand each other’s movement and, most importantly, they are hungry for goals.
