Ruben Amorim confident forward will thrive at Manchester United despite transfer links

Manchester United head coach Ruben Amorim believes young forward Alejandro Garnacho, has a key role to play at the club despite transfer speculations linking him away from the club.

The 20-year old has been linked with a move away from Old Trafford, with former Italian Serie A Champions Napoli reportedly interested in signing him as a replacement for Georgian winger Khvicha Kvaratskhelia, who is set to join French side Paris Saint Germain.

“That is clear. He has talent. He’s finding the best way to play in this system. He’s improving during training. He started the last game. Let’s see today [against Southampton]. I think he changed the way he sees himself”, Amorim said when asked about the Argentine’s future.

Garnacho, who was a key part of Dutch manager Erik Ten Hag’s team, has had his role reduced since Amorim took over in November.

He was dropped from the Manchester derby win over rivals Manchester City in December, alongside English forward Marcus Rashford, while he made his first start in over a month in the FA Cup third round victory over Arsenal on Sunday.

“He needs to learn to play in a different position,” Amorim continued.

“He needs to play better inside. He improves a lot in the recovering position when he doesn’t have the ball. But doing that, sometimes he’s not in the right place to make transitions like he was in the past. I prefer to defend and then build up with all the team to reach the final third.”
