World Cup 2026: Osimhen leads Nigeria early birds ahead of Rwanda and Zimbabwe fixtures

Galatasaray’s in-form hitman Victor Osimhen was among six Super Eagles stars, who arrived early at Nigeria’s training camp in Kigali ahead of their must-win World Cup qualification matches against Rwanda and Zimbabwe.

Osimhen, alongside other early birds including Tolu Arokodare (Genk), Bruno Onyemaechi (Olympiacos), and Papa Mustapha Daniel (Nigeria Tornadoes) were captured earlier on Monday evening, engaging in light gym training.

Also present at the Super Eagles camp in Kigali is Remo Stars goalkeeper Kayode Bankole, Singida Black Stars goalkeeper Amas Obasogie, Assistant coaches Daniel Ogunmodede and Fidelis Ilechuckwu.

The Super Eagles are anticipating the arrival of 17 other stars before full training can commence in earnest. Key players like Ademola Lookman, Alex Iwobi, William Troost-Ekong, Wilfred Ndidi, Calvin Bassey among a host of others are expected to arrive tonight.

Nigeria will head into these all-important qualifying matches desperate for maximum points after their lethargic start to the campaign. The Super Eagles currently place fifth in group C after recording three draws and one defeat from four games.

There will be little to no margin for error when the West African giants take on their Eastern and Southern counterparts on March 21 and 25 respectively. Any result other than two victories could spell doom for Nigeria’s qualification hopes.

However, the Super Eagles will head into these games with plenty of confidence especially with the mesmerizing form of key players like Osimhen, Lookman and Iwobi at the back of their minds.

New head coach Eric Chelle will take to the dugout for the first time since assuming his role as boss of the Super Eagles and the Franco-Malian will certainly be looking to get his tenure off to a cracking start with victories in these two games.
