Real Madrid defender Dani Carvajal is confident incoming manager Xabi Alonso will perform excellently at the club when he joins at the end of the season.
Although Los Blancos are yet to officially announce the Spaniard as manager, Alonso is set to replace Carlo Ancelotti after announcing his exit from Bundesliga side Bayer Leverkusen.
What Carvajal said:
“It looks like Xabi is going to be the one coming in even though it’s not official,” Carvajal told reporters.
“Only time will tell if Xabi is the right man to turn this year around, as we haven’t won any of the three major titles. But that’s football. In the end, results are what determine the future of coaches, players.”

The 33-year old who won the European Championships with Spain last summer, was unavailable for a larger part of the season after suffering an ACL tear in October.
“Xabi has just had two fantastic seasons with Bayer Leverkusen and I think he will do very well.
He knows the club better than anyone, he’s been a player, he’s defended the badge for many years, he knows what it means to be a Madrid player, and I think that’s also a plus for him as a coach”, he continued.

The Spaniard announced himself to the elite club when he won a historic unbeaten league and cup double last season, only suffering defeat in the Europa League final against Atalanta.

Although his Leverkusen side could not replicate last season’s success, Alonso has built a reputation as one of the most sought after coach in European football with counter-attacking prowess and youth development.
Expected to join at the end of the season after announcing his exit from Leverkusen earlier this month, the 43-year old will take over the reims at probably the toughest job in club football, widely tipped to succeed.
