Ahead of Inter Miami’s round of 16 clash against European champions Paris Saint Germain at the ongoing FIFA Club World Cup, striker Luis Suarez has labeled Spanish boss Luis Enrique as a great figure that influenced his career.
Suarez was an influential figure under Enrique during their time together at Barcelona, forming a dangerous attacking trio with Lionel Messi and Neymar.
The former Uruguay forward was part of the treble-winning team under the PSG boss in 2015, while he also claimed the European golden boot in 2016.
Suarez said; “Well, Luis Enrique is one of the most significant figures in my career.Everything I’ve learned from him has impacted me, and of course, I know that it will be a huge challenge to play against the Champions League champions.
It’ll be challenging, it’ll be complicated, but we are competitive. We will compete. We’ll try to fix some of the mistakes that we’ve made today, because if we do this kind of thing with PSG, it’ll be a very expensive mistake”, the 38-year old added.
Both sides will clash in the first knockout round after the United States side finished second in group A, as Luis Suarez produced a player of the match performance scoring one and providing another in the Herons 2-2 draw with Brazilian side Palmeiras in their group finale.
Tadeo Allende gave Inter Miami a first half lead before Suarez added a second after the half hour mark. The Brazilians scored twice in the final ten minutes as the match ended in a stalemate, with both teams progressing.
PSG, on the other hand, finished top of a group that also included Spanish side Atletico Madrid and Botafogo, after claiming an impressive 2-0 win over Seattle Sounders in their final group game on Monday.
