Andre Onana is running to be ready as Manchester United gets ready for a difficult Premier League opening against Arsenal on August 17.
Beginning a new chapter under Ruben Amorim is the clash at Old Trafford. United targets a solid beginning as Onana hopes to be in goal.
On their American tour, the Cameroonian shot-stopper joined the team. But he concentrated on personal fitness as Altay Bayindir and Tom Heaton split game time.
Though he missed the Premier League Summer Series, the Cameroon international provided fans with a favorable update from Atlanta.
“I’m good, I feel great,” the 29-year-old revealed to the American broadcasters. “It’s been a few difficult weeks but yeah, hopefully, I will be back for the start of the season. I’m enjoying the training with my guys and we are looking forward.”
Speaking to ex-United goalie Tim Howard, the goalkeeper also commented on the team’s harmony.
“We are together,” he remarked. “We know that last season was tough for us and must make sure this doesn’t happen again. We know the way. We work hard, we enjoy training together. We have fun and that is key. When we are together, we are going to be hard to beat.
“We’re happy with the way things are going. We play well, score goals and I’m happy how the team is developing themselves. Let’s see. I think it’s going to be important to have a good start against Arsenal and then everything is possible,” the former Inter Milan goalkeeper added.
In their last pre-season match, the Red Devils will slug it out with Fiorentina at Old Trafford. That confrontation could be Onana’s last opportunity to demonstrate his preparedness before meeting the Gunners.
From the opening whistle, United wants to fire on all cylinders because all eyes turn now to August 17.
