Ghana head coach Otto Addo believes his players must maintain concentration as they prepare to tackle Comoros in their final World Cup qualifying match on Sunday.
The Black Stars welcome the Coelacanths to the Accra Sports Stadium on Sunday night, with an eye on clinching the available automatic ticket from group I to the 2026 FIFA World Cup.
The four-time African champions need just a point to book their spot at next year’s tournament, for a fifth appearance in their history.
They currently sit top of the group on 22 points and are three points ahead of second-placed Madagascar who go up against Mali simultaneously.
Speaking in his prematch press conference, the 50-year-old believes his side must not underestimate their opponents, but focus on the task at hand.
“To be honest, I don’t really care. This is my life, and as a player as well, it is not like everybody believed in me from day one, but you will have to fight, and I am happy and blessed to be in this situation”, the Black Stars coach said.
“In football, anything can happen. I once led a team 4-0 and we lost 6-4. We are not done until we are done. We want to end this qualification with a victory and thank our fans for their support.”
Ghana will be careful of avoiding a repeat of the reverse fixture, when they were beaten 1-0 by Comoros- their only defeat of the qualifying campaign so far.
The Black Stars have also suffered defeat in their last two encounters against the Islanders, making this clash a potentially tough one.
“We are doing this for the people. Our aim is always to make Ghanaians happy. We will go into the match with 100% commitment,” he added.
“It’s not luck, it’s a blessing. We work hard, and we know what we’re doing. We will do everything to make the dream come true.”
